Hmm, I think its more than mere semantics though. Look at these two sentences:
"I WANT a glass of water."
"I NEED a glass of water."
Can you see where I'm coming from? The first quote implies that you would like a glass of water, but there is no sense of desperation there. However the second hints more to water being a necessity, because, of course, you need water to survive. And yes all heterosexual and non-asexual men do need women, but when people speak of 'needyness', they are describing a scenario in which you are persistently chasing a specific person, or indeed are being clingy with a spouse. Now, there is nothing wrong with wanting to spend time together, that's what people in love do, but it is an issue if one person is more bothered than the other who is fairly indifferent.
To be honest, I also think your statement about perversion is quite sweeping. There are men who are supposed to be in happy marriages who can be exposed as pedophiles, just as there are men who are sexually repressed who do not react violently towards repeated rejections. They just calmly get on with their life instead, albeit most likely quite miserably.
